Thread?

What kind of thread is everyone using? And are you matching your thread to your fabrics or going with something that will blend in?

Double Applique?

How is everyone doing the heel, toe and top cuff of the socks?

I have started to hand applique a small sock, but don't know if I should go ahead and do the whole sock and then add the heel and toe to it.

Found some more fabrics

to use for background and socks...also going to check some of my charms and see what there might be that can be used for toes and heels...I like your counter for keeping track of how many blocks you have done....might have to get one of those for me! LOL

My Fabric Selection

These are what I pulled from my stash, first the backgrounds. I have so many neutrals that I'm going to use an assortment.



These are what I pulled for the socks, but then realized that I should be using homespuns, so I will probably use some of these FQ packs (I have a bunch) of homespuns with a few of the others mixed in.

This is my background fabric...Tell me what you think? Can we use one background fabric for all the socks or do you want a mix of backgrounds?

Here are the fabrics I have right now for the socks....There are a couple stripes in there and are showing up as wavy...they really aren't wavy! I promise...

What's wrong with this picture?

My gold thread has disappeared. It was there and now it's gone! I'm sure one of the cats swiped it. Hopefully it will show up soon. I'm ready to 'kick' some of these socks off!

What Method are you using?

Mine may be a mixed bag of tricks. Last nite I got the bug to try the starch method and prepped 4 blocks. I keep hearing raves about this method and it is very popular. I do love the smoothness of the lines and how sharp the pieces are. Being a needle turner, I thought this method is way too much prep work. I figured the sock is a simple enough project to see if I could get used this process. The jury is still out. I have my four blocks prepped and glued in place, ready to stitch.
There are so many ways to applique. Simple thought is.. well, there is machine or there is hand, but when you get down to the nitty gritty, what methods are you using?
