Tossed Socks?

When I was assembling my top, there was one small sock that hid until the end. I put it in sideways, just because it was being ornery. Somebody pointed out that the "sets" (one big and two small socks) are squares, also, and could be turned any which way.

So I was thinking: if these socks are "lost", why are they marching along, all lined up? If there's anybody who hasn't assembled their top, you could really individualize this quilt by making the socks look like they just came out of the laundry! (Too late for me).

Just a thought I thought I'd put out there.

Got it together!

I went on a retreat last weekend, and took along my socks. I was so excited to assemble it, I barely paid attention to who did what (but thank you, Mar, for the identification). There sure are some cute socks in there!!

There were some mix-ups between the design floor (groan) and the sewing table, but finished is better than perfect. After I found the sock that had been hiding, I put it sideways. Then I thought, "Lost socks would be all a-tumble. How about putting all the small ones any which way?" A co-retreater pointed out that the units (one large & two small) socks are square, and could ALL be turned about!

So, is anybody going to be a rebel and toss their socks?

I was surprised at how LARGE the quilt turned out to be (I know I could have looked in the book), but I guess that explains why it took all summer to make the blocks.

Label

I forgot to mention how much I liked the label for the quilt, it is really cute. To Rebecca, what a great job you did with the blind hem, I'm jealous as mine wouldn't be that neat.

I ended up having to return your own extra socks to you. It got so that you would have been receiving duplicates of others or your own and it was much simpler to send them back to you. Hope you don't mind.

I'm Out

Just got off phone with Mar and she asked me to let you know that she will be putting your socks in the mail shortly. They, however, will be minus my socks. I seem to be cursed, doomed, an accident waiting to happen...whatever, but my life is not going too smooth right now. I was in my studio early this am all ready and raring to go. I just need to add cuffs to my large socks. First I needed to cut a few strips for a friend. Well, I had the music going and I was in full swing mode, and somehow I decided to slice and dice instead. My neighbors, who thankfully were outside, heard my screaming and came to my rescue. I didn't get any regular stitches, just butterflies, because part of the cut is too far into the nail bed, I cut right through my nail and although the cut is only about 5/8" the direction it takes is away from the hand at about a 30 degree angle, so they used another butterfly on and around the nail to pull it down and and hold it tight to the finger.
I really didnt think much while I was waiting to be seen, other than that I was loosing time, but on my return home I discovered that several of my socks had blood on them. I had blood everywhere. Of course being that I was gone for almost 3 hours it had dried, so I couldn't even test out the spit theory and even see if I had enough spit.
Right now I am just soooo...frustrated and angry. Yes angry, angry at myself for leaving my work laying around.
Rather than make anyone wait any longer, you've all been soooooo patient, I am withdrawing and will try to salvage what I can to make a small matching sock quilt for my grandchildren.
Please accept my sincere apology for being part of the delay and then now to have this happen, ugh!
I hope that those of you who can, willl post pics, and those that can't--maybe you can send a pic to Marlene to post for you. I'm looing forward to seeing your finished quilts.

Mine are making their way across the country and I hope it doesn't take them too long. What a fun project! Thanks so much Mar for organizing it.

An update on how I'm doing

Just wanted to pop in and say my small socks are all done! And I just finished cutting out all the large socks and their pieces. Next step to prep and start sewing them down. Will get these done asap so I can get them in the mail soon. Will let you know when they are at the post office.

I went looking back at old posts and can't believe that we started this in February! My, how time flies.

I was looking for the answer to a question....Are we to keep a set for ourselves and mail 9 sets.

Socks Received

This weekend I got Jayne's blocks in the mail! OMG, they are awesome! Can't wait to divy these all out. We are gonna have some cute quilts!!

Wow, it worked!

This is from weeks ago, when I was sorting my socks before stitching them down. They are sorted into sets, with the long sock underneath.

I'm working on mine

Got the last of the small heels and toes sewn onto the bodies last night and will start stitching down the bodies to the backgrounds tonight. Then onto to sewing the big ones and I'm done. I'm getting there.

Long Socks

Working on the last 10 long socks. They're all put together just need to start stitching them down while we watch Mad Men tonight.
